When customizing a product using Purl, there are a few important things to keep in mind.

Find the RESOLUTION of your image
When using a PC:
    • Go to your file explorer and find the image/file you want to use
    • Right click on the file and select “properties”
    • In the window that pops up, go to the “details” tab at the top
    • Look for the section called “image”
    • The resolution of the image is listed as the dimensions
When using a Mac:
    • Go to Finder and find the image/file you want to use
    • Right click on the image and select “get info”
    • Find the “more info” section; look for the section called “image”
    • The resolution of the image is listed as the dimensions

Know the DPI of your image
When using a PC:
    • Follow the same steps as above when finding the resolution
    • Go to the “image” section under the “details” tab on the image properties
    • The dpi will be listed as the “horizontal resolution” and the “vertical resolution”
When using a Mac:
    • Open the image in “preview”
    • Select the “tools” option and click on “adjust size”
    • The dpi should be labeled as “resolution”
We recommend saving your file at a high-quality setting (150 DPI or more) for large signs, and 300 DPI or more for smaller graphics, such as stickers.

Avoid BLURRY images
    • The resolution of your photo or artwork is important, especially on large format products, because if it’s smaller than what is suggested, it will most likely look pixelated and blurry on the final product.
    • When using the customizer, a pop-up will come up if your image is below the recommended resolution.
    • If the photo is a low resolution, you can save the file and then contact the Sign Hippo team to work with a graphic designer that can help you format the file correctly.

Keep COLORS looking consistent
    • Please understand that your file's colors will be converted automatically to our color profiles.
    • If your file is saved in an RGB format, some colors could appear slightly differently.
    • If possible, please setup your file in CMYK to have the best idea of what will be printed.

Use the right FILE TYPES
      • Purl supports all common file formats. However, for print-ready art we highly recommend using JPEG, PDF, Adobe Illustrator, EPS, or SVG files.
      • If you chose to upload an image that is a vector graphic, like an SVG file for example, you will be able to scale your design more easily while maintaining the image quality.
